Gesh's Tapcafe

Behind the scenes

Gesh's Tapcafe was created for the film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which was released on December 15, 2016. Prior to the film's release, it was revealed in the film's teaser trailer, which was posted on April 7, 2016. In the trailer, a shot shows a sign naming the bar as Bar Belloq in aurebesh; however, this shot did not make it into the final film where the establishment goes unnamed. Pablo Hidalgo gave the tapcafe's proper name for the first time in Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide, a reference book released alongside the film. Hidalgo created the name in reference to the Decraniated that can be seen inside, who had been known as "Headless Gesihas" during production. Hidalgo later clarified that Gesh's Tapcafe was the establishment seen in the film and provided explanation for the alternate names, also calling the building Cafe Belloq, on Twitter on September 23, 2023.
