Gekto system

Behind the scenes

The Gekto system was first mentioned in Timothy Zahn's short story "Jade Solitaire."

While preparing The Essential Atlas, authors Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry consulted with fans on the Jedi Council Forums about planet and system locations. One fan, "Senator_Cilghal," noted the similarity between the name of the Gekto system and the Gektl species, the latter having recently been established as being from the planet Hoszh Iszhir in the Star Wars Hyperspace article Aliens in the Empire, written by Abel G. Peña and Rich Handley, and suggested Hoszh Iszhir be located in the Gekto system. Abel G. Peña felt the idea made sense, and stated he had no objection to the idea, and doubted co-author Rich Handley would have objections either, and Jason Fry favorably regarded the notion and saw the logic in making the connection between the Gektls and the Gekto system. Upon the publication of The Essential Atlas, Daniel Wallace published a blog, "Unstated Canon in Star Wars: The Essential Atlas," that listed bits of continuity that weren't formally stated in the text of the book but had been vetted by Lucasfilm and were to be regarded as official; among those bits was confirmation that Hoszh Iszhir was in the Gekto system.
