A Gamma-class assault shuttle, the base of the LPC

The Gamma-class Light Personnel Carrier was an extensive modification of the Gamma-class assault shuttle designed to quickly supply planetary forces. It had a large landing gear that left the hull of the ship two meters off the ground when fully extended. The troops and cargo were deployed via a ramp in the belly of the ship.

In comparison with the assault shuttle, the Light Personnel Carrier was only lightly armed with four laser cannons.

History

Due to the harmless outer appearance but with the capability to deploy a full complement of troops, Rebel ground forces nicknamed these shuttles "gift boxes".

One of these shuttles was carried by the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Impending Doom, flagship of Moff Nile Owen. It was destroyed during the .

Behind the scenes

The Gamma-class Light Personnel Carrier was introduced in the West End Games adventure The Abduction, which was later republished in the adventure collection Classic Adventures.

While the statistics block in the adventures lists that the shuttle only has three gunners, the text actually says it had four, each one operating one laser cannon. Also, The Abduction gives the shuttle no hyperdrive, while Classic Adventures lists it with a Class 2 hyperdrive and a Class 18 backup, the same as the Assault Shuttle variant.
