The G51 communications array was a galactic–wide communications array which had been commissioned by Galactic Empress Marasiah Fel following the Second Imperial Civil War in 138 ABY to improve communications between the Outer Rim Territories and to link them to the wider galaxy. While Empress Fel regarded the communications array as essential to investing in the future of the new Galactic Federation Triumvirate, Admiral Gar Stazi regarded the communications array as "window dressing" and as one of the Empress' vanity projects.
The G51 communications array was known to have a station in the Carreras system and a secondary communications array outpost in the Ithori system. During the Carreras Incident, the Carreras array was destroyed when it collided with the floating planet Mala.
