G-LN

Biography

G-LN was manufactured by Serv-O-Droid, Inc. and, at some point, was taken in by the Gozzo Flix and the Chadra-Fan Orka. The three worked together in Office of Acquisitions, selling salvage aboard the Colossus station on the planet Castilon.

In 34 ABY, G-LN tinkered with some tools at the front desk of Acquisitions as Kadas'sa'Nikto mechanic Neeku Vozo and Resistance spy Kazuda Xiono, along with his droid companion BB-8, arrived at the Office. The pit droid chittered to greet the patrons and, upon being shown a datapad with a list of parts from Vozo, banged on the desk and chittered loudly to the back to summon Flix and Orka, whom G-LN departed the seat at the desk for. When Vozo clarified they were looking for parts for his boss Jarek Yeager's infamous ship, the Fireball, G-LN collapsed in laughter, believing Vozo was joking. Once the shopkeepers believed Vozo, they took the datapad from the Nikto and began compiling the requested components while G-LN followed with a bin to collect the merchandise.

When Xiono confessed he could not pay for the components, the shopkeepers stopped gathering the merchandise, and G-LN shook his head in disappointment. After a plea from Vozo, the partners agreed to trade some secondhand parts for a gorg for lunch. G-LN waved at the three patrons as they departed the office. When the trio later returned with a gorg, G-LN assisted Orka with handing over the merchandise. The gorg sat upon G-LN's head before leaping to the desk, where he was observed by G-LN.

On another day, BB-8 and Xiono fell through a chute into Acquisitions while avoiding the Aleena Grevel, to whom Xiono owed credits. G-LN and his owners gazed down at Xiono as he righted himself. As Flix critiqued Xiono's decision not to use the front door, G-LN began pushing Xiono out from behind the desk. Xiono and the shopkeepers discussed the spy's need to purchase a ZX-19 compressor while G-LN finished directing him to the front of Acquisitions.

On the morning Flix, G-LN, and Orka were to visit Flix's mother, the three walked through Acquisitions with Flix motioning for G-LN, carrying luggage, to follow. When Xiono arrived to watch over the store, G-LN stood nearby while Flix and Orka explained the business's motions. As the group left for the day, the pit droid beeped at Xiono until he moved and followed Flix and Orka out. Later that night, G-LN returned to Acquisitions, carry luggage again, with Flix and Orka as the partners argued about Flix's parents. G-LN was startled upon seeing the Office destroyed, from a scuffle between BB-8 and thief Teroj Kee. The droid left rather than listen to Xiono's explanation

Misadventures

Later, G-LN was in Acquisitions carrying a box while Flix and Orka attempted to open a box they had obtained from the salvager Synara San. The shopkeepers accidentally activated the thermal detonators inside after opening it but the devices failed to explode. the partners soon after removed the bombs from the shop. Another time, Flix, G-LN, and Orka sat together at the bar in Aunt Z's Tavern. When Flix remarked that G-LN looked bored, Orka poured some of his Blurrgfire into the droid's bowl. G-LN consumed the drink while Flix and Orka conversed with Z'Vk'Thkrkza, an old friend of theirs and "Aunt Z" of the tavern. The pit droid burped a few times before shrieking in excitement. While his owners conversed, the droid ran amok the cantina and knocked a tray from an astromech droid, kicked a tray and cup away from the Klatooinian Bolza Grool, and stole a ladle from cantina's service droid G1-7CH.

The assaulted droids and Grool chased G-LN around the cantina before the pit droid was cornered on a table. As G-LN waved the ladle back and forth, Grool grabbed the small droid's neck and punched his head, deactivating him. As the trio left his unconcious body on the table, Flix inquired to Orka how G-LN was. Orka watched the droid's body slide off the table and joked he looked down, which Flix did not find funny.

Avoiding the First Order

During the First Order's occupation of the Colossus, G-LN hid—along with Flix, Orka, and their pet gorg Bitey—from the First Order inside a crate. The crate was scheduled to be delivered by the First Order delivery service to Flix's mother's home on Talivar. After days of hiding, Xiono discovered the group in the crate after hearing sounds from Acquisitions. As Bitey sat on his head, G-LN watched Xiono discuss with Flix and Orka his plans to fight the First Order and their plans to go to Talivar. After Xiono informed the group the station was underwater, Flix and Orka wished the Resistance member luck before closing the crate's lid again.

Later into 34 ABY, after the Colossus left Castilon and spent months fleeing from the First Order, Imanuel DozaCaptain of the Colossus—settled the station on the planet Aeos Prime. As Doza announced the new home to the citizens, G-LN gathered with Flix, Orka, and many others in the marketplace as the shield doors revealed Aeos. During the rescue of Tamara Ryvora, G-LN took up arms to stand their ground and face the First Order's Resurgent-class Star Destroyer Thunderer, which had been pursuing them through space.

Characteristics

G-LN was programmed to serve his masters Flix and Orka. He spoke Binary. He had an amicable relationship with them. One one occasion, Orka rewarded him by serving him Blurrgfire, which caused him to go on a rampage and pick a fight with other patrons.

Behind the scenes

G-LN first appeared, albeit unnamed, in part two of the two-part episode "The Recruit," the first episode of the first season of the animated television series Star Wars Resistance, which aired on October 7, 2018. G-LN's sounds were sourced from those created by Lucasfilm sound designer Ben Burtt for the pit droids in Star Wars: Episode 1 The Phantom Menace, the prequel trilogy film that released in 1999.

The droid was initially identified as "GL-N" in his Databank entry on StarWars.com, which was posted online by October 15, 2018. However, the short "G-LN," which released December 17 of that year, identified the droid as "G-LN." 2019 Topps Star Wars Resistance Surprise Packs—released April 10, 2019—returned to "GL-N" and also misstated that G-LN worked in Jarek Yeager's Repair Station to restore the Fireball. Resistance Revisited, an article within Star Wars Insider 190 that released on June 12, 2019, employed the "G-LN" spelling again. By July 18 of that year, the Databank entry was changed to match the short. On October 4, 2019, the reference book Ultimate Star Wars, New Edition returned "GL-N" to use. Finally, De Agostini's Star Wars Encyclopedia reused "G-LN" with the "Ace Squadron" booklet, which published on May 27, 2022.
