Chancellor Frix was first mentioned in the article Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Praji, which was written by Nathan O'Keefe and published for Hyperspace: The Official Star Wars Fan Club. In his endnotes for the article, O'Keefe stated that Frix's name was a nod to the Rebel pilot Grizz Frix and that he imagined the two characters to be related but that it was up to future authors to decide if they were or not.
