Darth Malgus was proficient in this ability, using it to devastating effect on the unprepared enemy. Millennia later, Darth Sidious mastered this ability, using it as a stepping stone to achieve mastery of the much more powerful Force storm in his later years. Members of Emperor Palpatine's black cloaked Shadow Guard also used this power, as did the Sith apprentice Galen Marek.
It was also an ability granted to a person with the Jedi profession in Star Wars Galaxies, where it was a cone of Force lightning generated around a Jedi that damaged all close by. Force Maelstrom was an ability featured in the Wii version of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, as well as the Duel Mode of the PSP version.
