Fleet Group Two was commanded by General Garm Bel Iblis aboard the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Bail Organa During the battle the fleet suffered heavy losses to the vast enemy armada as it stormed the capital world's defenses.
The remnants of the fleet retreated along with Bel Iblis to the Tapani sector, where they made the shipyards of Tallaan their base of operations for the next year. In this time, Bel Iblis switched flagships from the Bail Organa to the much larger Mon Calamari warship Harbinger. In preparation for the ambush planned at Ebaq 9 by Admiral Ackbar, Luke Skywalker journeyed to Tallaan in order to recruit Bel Iblis and his forces for the coming battle. He succeeded, and a significant portion of Fleet Group Two, divided into three large battle groups, were sent in to ambush Tsavong Lah's fleet after it had been lured into the system.
After the victory at Ebaq, the New Republic was reorganized into the Galactic Alliance, and the fleet group's assets were redistributed among the rest of the new government's defense force.
