Er'Kit system

Description

The Er'Kit system was located in the Noonian sector, a part of the New Territories portion of the Outer Rim Territories. It was situated on the Braxant Run hyperlane, which connected it to the Borgo Prime and Storinal systems. Another hyperspace route also linked it to the Hewett system. The Er'Kit system contained the terrestrial planet Er'Kit.

Republic and Empire

The area of space including the Er'Kit system was explored between 3000 BBY and 1000 BBY, and by the time of the final phase of the New Sith Wars between the Galactic Republic and the forces of the Sith tradition of Force-users, the system was a part of the territories unaligned with or contested by the two factions. During the Clone Wars, the Er'Kit system was situated within Republic-controlled space, and the Republic's Ninth Sector Army was tasked with engaging the military forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems in the system's vicinity during the first campaigns of that conflict in 22 BBY. Shortly after the acquisition of the planet Ukio by the Commerce Guild during that conflict, the Er'Kit system was featured on a galactic map displayed on a viewscreen at a facility run by Passel Argente, the Magistrate of the Corporate Alliance. The Er'Kit system fell within the borders of the Republic's successor, the Galactic Empire, by 17 BBY.

The Death Star battlestation traveled through the Er'Kit system on its path to Alderaan.

In 0 BBY, a pair of vessels involved with the ongoing civil war between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance traveled through the Er'Kit system. First, the Imperial Star Destroyer Devastator, having captured Tantive IV, the corvette of the Rebel-aligned Senator Leia Organa, above the Outer Rim world Tatooine, traveled through Er'Kit with the captive senator aboard in order to rendezvous with the Imperial Death Star battlestation in the Outer Rim's Horuz system. Shortly after that, when Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, the officer in charge of the Death Star, decided to demonstrate its offensive capabilities upon the Core Worlds planet of Alderaan, the Imperial Navy cleared the hyperlanes for the mobile station to move to its target unhindered, traveling through the Er'Kit system on its path.

Post-Endor

The Er'Kit system lay within the territory of the Empire's Oversector Outer in the immediate aftermath of the Battle of Endor of 4 ABY, but advances by the military of the New Republic against Imperial splinter factions in the wake of that engagement resulted in the oversector's boundaries having receded from the system two years later. Er'Kit was nevertheless situated within Imperial Space between 7 ABY and 8 ABY and, by 10 ABY, specifically was located within the borders of the Imperial-controlled territory consolidated during Imperial Grand Admiral Thrawn's campaign against the New Republic in the preceding year.

The Er'Kit system fell within the borders of the reorganized Imperial Remnant between 12 ABY and 13 ABY, but, once again, an offensive by the New Republic—which saw its forces, as well as a secondary movement of Imperial ones, pass through the system prior to a confrontation in the Ketaris system—left the system outside the boundaries of the former government by 17 ABY. The extra-galactic Yuuzhan Vong conquered the Er'Kit system between 25 ABY and 26 ABY as part of their invasion of the galaxy, and the system remained under the invaders' control by 27 ABY.

Inhabitants

Er'Kit was the homeworld of the sentient Er'Kit species. At least one Er'Kit had traveled into the wider galaxy by 32 BBY. By the time of the reign of the Galactic Empire, the planet was also home to a family that included the Human brothers and future Imperial Navy officers Treuten and Kosh Teradoc. By 22 BBY, the planet was represented in the Galactic Senate of the Republic, and the population of the Er'Kit system around 25 ABY numbered between one and ten million.

Behind the scenes

The planet Er'Kit, and therefore its star system, was introduced on a map included in the 2000 reference book Inside the Worlds of Star Wars: Episode I by Kristin Lund. The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry named the system and placed it in grid square M-6. The Clone Wars: Act on Instinct, a webcomic authored by Pablo Hidalgo and released on StarWars.com over the span of the 20092010 second season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series, featured the first appearance of the Er'Kit system.
