The Eighth Division was a cell of the Rebel Alliance's Alliance Fleet, created following the fleet's scatter after the Battle of Hoth. The Eighth Division regrouped near Malastare, and was later contacted by the Fourth Division. However, the Galactic Empire had broken Rebel Alliance codes, and learned the location of both divisions. The Eighth Division was completely destroyed, but a majority of the Fourth Division managed to escape thanks to the assistance of the Millennium Falcon.
