The drone freighter came in a variety of forms, but all models seemingly featured vertical fins in the aft section. Being unmanned, the drone freighter did not require a crew and was instead controlled by a command relay. Despite this, the freighter had a breathable atmosphere and was equipped with a flight deck which could be manned by a pilot and a gunner.
In 3 ABY, an Imperial convoy of drone freighters was en route to the Kuat Drive Yards with a cargo of hyperdrive components. When Rebel spies learned of this convoy, the Alliance mounted a daring mission to intercept one of those freighters.
