The story was adapted by Megan Ilnitzki from the previously published World of Reading adaptation Use the Force! by Michael Siglain. It was first published on July 20, 2015 as part of Star Wars Galactic Adventures, an illustrated storybook collection from Disney–Lucasfilm Press, under the name "Use the Force." It was later republished as "Do or Do Not", in Star Wars Galactic Stories: 7 Stories from a Galaxy Far, Far Away.... with the text slightly changed. "Do or Do Not" re-used illustrations previously done by Pilot Studio for Use the Force!.
