Dee-Four was a protocol droid who served the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Between 2 BBY and 4 ABY, Dee-Four traveled to the asteroid outpost "Z-LOQ" with Alexsandr Kallus, a rebel spy, to meet Grand-engineer Lony Coleema and receive information about the newest Galactic Empire technology. After Dee-Four referred to Coleema as "mistress," the engineer corrected the droid, saying they preferred the term "sister." Coleema claimed they were in possession of information regarding new Imperial long-range detection technology and improved attack capabilities.

The grand-engineer shared it directly into the droid's memory systems, and Dee-Four said that receiving the data was like a shooting voice in its head. After completing the transmission, Kallus and the droid left the outpost, leaving a subspace transponder to Coleema in case they needed to contact the Alliance in the future. After Dee-Four and Kallus left, Coleema was kidnapped by the bounty hunter IG-88 assassin droid IG-88. The bounty hunter brought them to a planet where the Holowan droid foundry was located to access their brain, but the grand-engineer managed to escape. Sometime later, Kallus and Dee-Four found Coleema on the planet and brought them onboard the starship Glimmer of Hope after the reprogrammed droid Are Zero Are Zero activated the subspace transponder. On the ship, Dee-Four welcomed the engineer and told them where they had found them.
