Dark Trooper hyperspace capsules were vehicles used by the Dark troopers of the Galactic Empire that were launched from the Arc Hammer. One devastating feature of the launch pods was the ability to explode on contact with a Rebel planet, which softened the Rebel forces just prior to the attack on Tak Base. As their name indicated, they had the ability to travel through hyperspace.
Clint Bajakian created the sound effect for the capsule launch, as heard in Dark Forces. His sources were the launch sound effect of the Viper probe droid, combined with the sound of a Snowspeeder (both from Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back) and his own voice with tweaked frequency, for "a semihuman personality".
