DN-949A was an outpost located on the planet Netalych that served as the Galactic Empire's tertiary fueling post and chemical processing facility for its sector. It had an organic population of less than 500 and was worked by around 1600 droids of fifth degree or higher. Six days after the Battle of Endor, the droid population overthrew the local military forces and claimed independence for the outpost and the right to self-governance. A year after Endor, an Imperial strike team led by Yrica Quell of the 204th Imperial Fighter Wing visited the outpost so that Quell could discreetly meet with the droid known as the Surgeon and have the remains of one of Emperor Palpatine's Messenger droids analyzed.
