The DBY-827 was the standard requirement in naval gunnery around the time of the Clone Wars for inter-ship combat and planetary bombardment. Each turret was mounted with powerful tracking sensors as well as a large power capacitor which quickly discharged energy to the guns. Venator-class Star Destroyers had eight DBY-827s, four on either side of the bridge area. They were the main source of firepower on the ship.
The DBY-827 had two different modes of firing: one was to fire alternating between the two barrels, at variable but relatively rapid rates, while another was to fire both barrels simultaneously, but at a generally lower but still variable rate. During close-range fights, the turret could rotate in three seconds with its fast-tracking mode in order to engage close-range targets, as well as having precise, long-range tracking that was suited for hitting targets at a distance. The DBY-827 had seven different blast intensities so that the damage inflicted could be modulated under various circumstances.
