Luke Skywalker and R2-D2 arrive on Bespin, hoping to save his friends from the clutches of the Galactic Empire but instead finds Darth Vader. The two engage in a lightsaber duel with Vader hurling Skywalker out of a window into the depths of Cloud City. Lord Vader corners Skywalker on a bridge and the two parry.
As Vader drives Skywalker to the edge of the bridge, he tries to tempt Skywalker into embracing the dark side and joining him. Skywalker replies that he will never join him and the two continue fighting. Vader slices off Luke's right hand with his lightsaber, causing Luke's blade to drop into the depths of Cloud City. Luke screams in pain and shock.
As Luke clings onto the edge of the platform, Lord Vader invites Skywalker to work together with him to bring order to the galaxy. He implores Luke to come with him. Luke refuses Vader's offer and lets go off his left hand. He descends into the bowels of Cloud City, clinging onto a cross-shaped platform. Through the Force, Luke calls out to his sister Leia Organa, who convinces Lando Calrissian that they have to go back for her brother. Leia, Lando and Chewbacca turn the Millennium Falcon around and rescue Luke.
Back at the Alliance Fleet, Lando prepares to depart on the Falcon with Chewbacca. He tells a recovering Skywalker and Princess Leia that he promises to bring Han back. Luke wishes Lando "May the Force be with you." The narrator says that together our heroes will fight on, the adventure will continue, and the Jedi will return.
