A calcifier was a Yuuzhan Vong biot that was developed to implant yorik coral into the body of captured citizens of the galaxy. Calcifiers had specialized limbs which allowed it to cut into flesh; then break off pieces of itself and place them inside the victim's body. Over time, these implants of yorik coral crippled the victim and rendered them helpless slaves.
