C.B. Lee

C.B. Lee is an American author of Chinese-Vietnamese descent. They wrote "A Good Kiss," one of the short stories in the anthology book From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back, which was published in 2020.

Biography

In an interview with the blog Tatooine Times, Lee said that the Del Rey editor Tom Hoeler recruited them via their agent, Thao Le, to write a short story for From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back, an anthology book based around the events of Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. Lee's first idea for a story involved a background character seen passing Han Solo and Leia Organa, and they thus developed the character into Chase Wilsorr, the subsequent main character.

Lee told the Tatooine Times that they wrote Wilsorr to be an "awkward disaster" and used "Be Your Best Self" as the moral of the story. They also told the blog site that as a queer author, they based Wilsorr's sexual orientation off of their own as they felt it was powerful and validating to see someone like themselves in a story, especially as they had not seen other queer individuals portrayed in a positive way when they grew up. Lee's story was named "A Good Kiss," and was published in From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back in 2020.
