Bombardment of Zarracina III

In 11,660 BBY, the Galactic Republic carried out a bombardment of the planet Zarracina III. At the time, the Republic was under the control of the Humanocentric Pius Dea cult, and it attempted to gain control of the planet after a strategically important hyperspace jump point was discovered in the Zarracina system. When the ruling council of the planet's Zarracine species died by suicide rather than be captured, Republic Commodore Daymont Praji ordered that Zarracina III be subjected to an orbital bombardment. It caused radioactive winter on the planet, and the Zarracines were rendered nearly extinct, going on to harbor resentment toward the Republic and the Prajis that lasted for tens of millennia.

Prelude

The bombardment of Zarracina III occurred as part of the Twelfth Pius Dea Crusade.

The bombardment of Zarracina III occurred as part of the Twelfth Pius Dea Crusade.

During the Pius Dea Era, a period of time lasting between approximately 12,000 BBY and 11,000 BBY, the Galactic Republic was under the control of the Humanocentric Pius Dea cult. In 11,660 BBY, a stable hyperspace jump point was discovered in the Expansion Region's Zarracina system. Due to the discovery's strategic nature, acquiring the inhabited planet Zarracina III became a priority for the Republic. When the Zarracines, the native species of Zarracina III, rejected envoys from the Republic's capital world Coruscant, the Republic initiated a crusade against the natives of the Zarracina system.

The bombardment

On the verge of capture by the Republic, the entire ruling council of Zarracina III died by suicide in order to avoid conversion to the Pius Dea religion and to spite the would-be Republic conquerors. In response, Republic Commodore Daymont Praji ordered that the planet be subjected to orbital bombardment.

Aftermath

The bombardment of Zarracina III sent the planet into a state of radioactive winter. It also caused the near-extinction of the Zarracines, with the few remaining aliens adopting a nomadic existence and nurturing hatred for the Republic—which subsequently annexed the Zarracina system—and the Praji family that lasted for more than ten thousand years. In 104 ABY, Doctor Gabrel Treon mentioned the bombardment of Zarracina III in the article "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Praji: A Cartel of Genes," published in the Byblos Journal of Historical Science.
