History

Sometime around 9 ABY, the rancor was gifted to Daimyo Boba Fett by the Hutts known as the Twins. A rancor keeper assisted Fett by taking care of the rancor, and arrived at Boba Fett's Palace along with the rancor as part of the Twins' tribute. The keeper informed the former bounty hunter that the rancor would bond with the first Human it saw. Fett expressed a desire to learn to ride the rancor after hearing that the Witches of Dathomir had been known to do so. Wondering what to name his new pet, the keeper then instructed Fett to stand in front of the rancor as he removed its blinders. After recovering its sight, it immediately noticed Fett and imprinted on him. Approaching the rancor with ease, Fett began to pet the creature and found the spot it loved to be rubbed the most closest to its right eye. However, at that moment 8D8 interrupted them to inform them that Mayor Mok Shaiz was unavailable for the next 20 rotations. Leaving the rancor to be feed and to confront the mayor, the rancor looked disappointed. The rancor keeper however reassured it that Fett would be back.

Grogu used the Force to calm the rampaging young rancor.

Grogu used the Force to calm the rampaging young rancor.

Fett went on to keep it in the rancor pit in Jabba's Palace, and used it to intimidate the crime bosses of Mos Espa when one of them threatened to kill him. Fett was able to calm his pet down by feeding it, but also threatened the other bosses that it was hungry, implying that he would feed them to it. During the Battle for Mos Espa, the rancor has become Boba's personal mount. He used it to help destroy the two Scorpenek annihilator droids that were set loose by the Pyke Syndicate. In the battle, Fett was knocked off, and the rancor started climbing the buildings of the city. The allied fighters tried to shoot it, but the rancor was then subdued and put to sleep by the Force-sensitive youngling Grogu, ending its rampage and saving its life.
