A team of Jedi Knights were sent to Nickel One to prevent the Killiks and their tarhead and Joiner Verpine allies from staging a coup. Luke Skywalker, Mara Jade Skywalker, and Jacen Solo entered the system to find the Killik forces already landing on the asteroid. The Jedi received a distress call from the Verpine Hive Mother informing them she was under attack. While Mara and Luke destroyed the rest of the Killik force's transports, Jacen entered the colony alone and on foot and cut down the invaders with his lightsaber.
