Baktoid Fleet Ordnance

Description

The manufacturing company Baktoid Fleet Ordnance was formed under the galactic Techno Union corporation, as a builder of automated droid weaponry. Alongsides its sister company Baktoid Armor Workshop, it was a subisidiary to Baktoid Combat Automata and was composed of Geonosian workers. One of their projects was the HMP Predator gunship, a heavily armed airspeeder designed and manufactured for the Confederacy of Independent Systems in collaboration with the Haor Chall Engineering companies.

History

At some point in the Republic Era, Baktoid Fleet Ordnance was founded as a subisidary to the Techno Union. When the Clone Wars occurred, fought from 22 BBY to 19 BBY between the Galactic Republic and Confederacy of Independent Systems, the company became one of the Confederacy's manufacturers for automated droid weaponry. Envisioning a heavily armed and automated repulsorlift airspeeder alongside Haor Chall Engineering, Baktoid Fleet Ordnance designed the HMP Predator gunship to replace the Separatists' pilot-dependant assault ships.

Phlac-Arphocc Automata Industries helped to finalize the product, by providing Baktoid and Haor Chall with their stockpiles of exotic and superdense radioactive fuels. While development took time, the gunships were eventually deployed directly from the production lines two years into the Clone Wars. Baktoid and Haor Chall's products were then incorporated into the Confederacy and introduced at the Onderonian Civil War in 20 BBY, where four nearly eliminated a band of Onderonians rebelling against the Separatist occupation. From that point onward, the Predator gained a terrifying reputation for its droid brain as one of the most hated assets in the Separatist military.

Behind the scenes

Baktoid Fleet Ordnance was first mentioned simultaneously in the Star Wars Legends reference books Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith Incredible Cross-Sections and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith: The Visual Dictionary, both of which released on the same day in 2005. The company was confirmed to be canon by the reference book Ultimate Star Wars, which was released in 2015.
