B-2A was an experimental battle droid produced for the Galactic Empire in Imperial Research Station 61 on the planet Wayland. The droid and its partner unit B-2B, were based on the B2 super battle droid, possessing the same basic appearance but with yellow sensors and altered arm weaponry. After the two droid's creation the research station's commandant, Colonel Milosh Muhrlein had them installed in the walls of his office as a security measure against intruders. In the year 3 BBY Muhrlein found Imperial Intelligence agent Jahan Cross searching through the files in his office for evidence of black market dealings. Muhrelin attempted to bribe Cross not to reveal the evidence he found, but failed and then ordered the droids to attack. Both advanced on Cross opening fire, but the agent's Human replica droid IN-GA 44 returned fire and destroyed both units.
B-2A first appeared in the 2011 comic book Agent of the Empire – Iron Eclipse 1, which was written by John Ostrander as part of the "Iron Eclipse" story arc of the Star Wars: Agent of the Empire series.
