Ayo Tam first appeared, albeit unidentified, in the first episode of the Obi-Wan Kenobi television series, which aired on May 26, 2022. The character's head was originally sculpted by for an unspecified project which was eventually scratched, the detailed bust later taken by make-up effects artist to be reused in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Smith asked concept artist Dylan Howie-Richardson to create an updated design for the character, which was then implemented as a background character within the series' first episode. Ayo Tam was played by actress Jo Osmond Morriss, being one of her many roles as background characters among Star Wars television.
