Auren

Auren was a moon of Ingo, located within the Ingo system of the Mid Rim. It was home to a facility operated by the Fromm Gang, a crime family headquartered on the planet Annoo. The multi-level facility was involved in mining, research, and other activities. The droids C-3PO and R2-D2 were imprisoned in the complex, but they escaped and made their way to a higher story, where Thall Joben and Jord Dusat rescued them.

Description

Auren was located in the Ingo system of the Bortele sector, in the Mid Rim.

History

C-3PO and a Fromm droid

C-3PO and a Fromm droid

A crime family run by the corpulent Annoo-dat Blue Sise Fromm, operated from the Tharin sector planet Annoo, the headquarters of the Fromm Gang. During the early years of the Galactic Empire, circa 15 BBY, they established an eight-level facility on Ingo's moon, Auren. There, they engaged in mining, manufacturing, and research.

During this period, the Fromm Gang captured the droids C-3PO and R2-D2, imprisoning them deep within their Auren facility. The two droids, a protocol and astromech droid respectively, were at this time owned by the Human Thall Joben, an inhabitant of Ingo who had numerous hostile encounters with the Fromm Gang. The droids managed to escape from their cell, ascending eight levels of the facility and evading capture from numerous Fromm Tower Droids and other droid workers. Once out of the facility, they found Joben and his friend Jord Dusat waiting to rescue them from the planet.

Inhabitants

The Fromm Gang facility on Auren was staffed by a variety of droids. These included Fromm Tower droids, guard droids, repulsor balls, Boiler droids and Strong Arm Droids; a mix of both repulsorlift and bipedal designs.

Locations

The Fromm Gang facility on Auren contained at least eight levels, each allocated to a different purpose. The bottommost floor operated as a prison, while built on top of this were mining, factory, and research levels. These were followed by a story allocated to domestic purposes, communication, security, and finally control. The levels were separated by elevators activated by entering the correct sequence of colored keys. Also installed at various points on the ceilings of these levels were gun emplacements.

Behind the scenes

Auren is the setting for the video game Star Wars: Droids released in 1988 for the ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, and Commodore 64 platforms. "Auren" was not explicitly identified as a planet in the game—which had little plot overall—although it was implied by the game's concluding text. The summary on the game's box actually referred to the location as "Ingo's moon — Auren," though its designation as a moon was absent from later sources as Auren was later erroneously referenced as "Aaron" in 2009's The Essential Atlas and its online companion in the form of the "Aaron" system. The 2013 StarWars.com article The Droids Re-Animated also erroneously mentioned "planet Aaron". The error has been raised with the creators of The Essential Atlas and been flagged for correction in future updates to the Star Wars: The Essential Atlas Online Companion.
