Ashla (moon)

Description

Ashla was a terrestrial moon that orbited the planet Tython in the Tython system, located in the Deep Core. It had a breathable atmosphere and a surface of saltwater oceans and islands with large golden sand beaches. A native species was the carnivorous flying creature named a wingmaw, which populated the skies of the moon.

History

Months after the dedication of the Starlight Beacon in 232 BBY, Jedi Master Elzar Mann journeyed to the Isle of Seclusion on Ashla aboard his Jedi Vector. Mann had experienced a terrible Force vision during the aforementioned dedication, and chose the Isle as a place where he could meditate in solitude on what he had seen. He waded into the ocean surrounding the Isle, and eventually received a vision that directed him to the planet Valo.

Behind the scenes

The moon Ashla was originally introduced in the Star Wars Legends continuity in the first issue of the comic miniseries Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi: Force Storm, which was written by John Ostrander, illustrated by Jan Duursema, and published by Dark Horse Comics on February 15, 2012. In the current Star Wars canon, Ashla was first mentioned as a name for the Light side of the Force in the Rebels episode "The Holocrons of Fate" (October 1, 2016). The moon Ashla itself first appeared in the 2021 novel The High Republic: The Rising Storm, written by Cavan Scott.
