Artiod Minor

Artiod Minor was a Wild Space planet that was the homeworld of the sentient Artiodac species. At one point, the inhabitants of the cold and swampy world became enslaved for centuries by the Zygerrian Slave Empire, which led to the scattering of the Artiodacs across the galaxy. Nevertheless, the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs spent his childhood on Artiod Minor.

Description

Artiod Minor was a Wild Space planet located in the Artiod system of the distant Morellian Commonwealth region. It was situated in grid square S-3 of the Standard Galactic Grid. A cold, swampy world, Artiod Minor featured on its surface scrub forests inhabited by creatures known as shuimi.

History

Artiod Minor was the homeworld of the Artiodac species.

Artiod Minor was the homeworld of the Artiodac species.

The Artiod system was at one point discovered by enslavers of the Zygerrian Slave Empire. They overran Artiod Minor, and for the subsequent centuries, the empire kept the planet's native Artiodac species enslaved. Over that period of time, the Zygerrians periodically returned to fill their slave pens with Artiodacs. Their enslavement eventually led to the Artiodacs acquiring an unsavory reputation, with many of Artiod Minor's natives leaving the planet in order to work as soldiers or criminal henchmen, and over time the species became scattered across the galaxy.

The Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs, who had lived for centuries by 34 ABY, spent his childhood on Artiod Minor and noted in his work The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, published that year, that well-made soups and stews reminded him of that period of his life. At some point, Artiod Minor was also mentioned in an entry of an artist's journal dedicated to the Artiodacs. The journal was eventually restored, expanded, and displayed at the Graf Archive at some point no earlier than 34 ABY.

Inhabitants

Artiod Minor was the homeworld of the sentient, humanoid Artiodac species. In order to attract a mate's attention as part of the Artiodac courtship rituals, young members of the species foraged in their planet's scrub forests in order to create crowns made out of collected shuimi feathers. Mated Artiodac pairs subsequently spent their lives tending aqua-farms where schools of the prengalli creatures were kept.

Behind the scenes

Artiod Minor was introduced in the 2016 reference book Star Wars: Aliens of the Galaxy by Jason Fry.
