Articles of secession were official documents. When former Jedi Master Dooku gave the Raxus Address in 24 BBY to denounce the Galactic Republic, beginning the Separatist Crisis, many Rim planets were inspired to leave the Republic. They tendered formal articles of secession and defected to Dooku's Confederacy of Independent Systems. On one occassion, shortly after the Clone Wars started, Senator Esu Rotsino proclaimed an article of secession and led the entire Abrion sector in leaving for the Separatists.
