Artesia was first mentioned in the 2008 reference book The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia in the entry for Artesian space collage. The Appendix section of the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Artesia system, and therefore the planet itself, in grid square P-12, although this was contradicted by its placement in grid square P-11 in the book's map of the Expansion Region. The StarWars.com Online Companion to The Essential Atlas later confirmed the placement of the Artesia system in grid square P-11.
