The Archive of the Great Library of Alderaan was a data archive that contained a copy of all the information held within the Royal Library of Alderaan.
After the archive's creation, it was smuggled offworld by librarians who feared the Galactic Empire would take over the planet. While the Empire never conquered Alderaan, the planet was destroyed by the Death Star, and the library itself was lost.
During the Cold War between the Resistance and the First Order, the Kudon trader Mek Nu'Tiv acquired the archive, catching the attention of both General Leia Organa of the Resistance and the smuggler Han Solo. Posing as an officer of the First Order, Solo arranged to buy the archive. At the same time, Organa assigned Poe Dameron with a mission to infiltrate Nu'Tiv's cruiser and take the archive. Solo found the data archive while aboard Nu'Tiv's cruiser, but upon realizing what it was, allowed the Resistance to leave with it. Once Black Squadron returned to D'Qar with the archive, Organa planned to copy its contents and sell the physical archive to collectors who would pay high prices for it.
