The Anzati were first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in the Jedi Temple Archives set of Topps trading cards 2015 Topps Star Wars Chrome Perspectives: Jedi vs. Sith, published in 2015. They were first identified as a species in the third issue of De Agostini's Star Wars Helmet Collection magazine series, published in 2016. The issue used a comic image featuring an Anzati attacking Aayla Secura originally printed in Star Wars (1998) 34 to depict the Anzati. In the comic, the Anzati in question was identified as the former Jedi Volfe Karkko, but this is not confirmed to also be the case in canon.

In the Star Wars Legends continuity, Dannik Jerriko was identified as an Anzat of the Anzati in "Soup's On: The Pipe Smoker's Tale," a short story written by Jennifer Roberson that was included in Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina, which was released by Bantam Spectra in July 1995.
