Anoobas were vicious quadrupeds that could be up to 2.7 meters long. Anoobas possessed a pronounced lower jaw, sharp teeth, a long tail, and thick patches of fur across their spines, and they were able to let out a fearsome growl.Their hind legs were smaller than their front legs. Anoobas had a chin tusk that jutted out on their lower jawand long claws and fangs.Small anoobas lacked a chin tusk.
Wild anoobas could be dangerous and they traveled in packs of 10 to 12 members. They stabbed their prey with their chin tusks and then tore the prey apart using their long claws and fangs. Anoobas could be trained to be pets,guards,or hunters.

The Kyuzo bounty hunter Embo owned an anooba named Marrok, whom he had trained to assist him in his jobs.Marrok was loyal to Embo and well-trained. He helped Embo during combat and retrieved Embo's hat that was used as a weapon and a shield.Marrok was small for his species, and he lacked the chin tusk that was found on most anoobas.
The Phindian Osi Sobeck kept a pack of dark anoobas which he used to hunt down fugitives on the planet Lola Sayu. During a mission by the Republic to rescue prisoners of war from the Citadel prison, an anooba was able to pounce on Jedi Master Even Piell while he was distracted by pursuing droids. The beast struggled with Piell on the ground before stabbing him in the chest with its tusk, leading to his death.

The anooba was a concept designed for the 1999 film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace by concept artist Terryl Whitlatch, who explored the anooba as a possible creature on Tatooine. In the episode "Citadel Rescue," anoobas were kept in cages that were visually inspired by the velociraptor cages in the 1993 movie Jurassic Park. The episode's animators resized a gundark's mouth to be used as the anoobas' mouths.
