According to the Kaminoan legend "The Tale of the Aiwha Pod," the Ancient Trench was an underwater trench located on the planet Kamino and was the site of a battle between the monster-god Protas and the sentient kikla. The kikla had assembled an army, and they challenged Protas for rule of the planet's oceans. Protas accepted the challenge, and after a month of fighting, he defeated the challengers.
