Anchorhead

Anchorhead was a small town on Tatooine. It offered connections to other cities on the planet, such as Mos Eisley.

History

By the time of the Galactic Civil War, Tusken Raiders had gathered in large enough numbers to attack the outskirts of small towns such as Anchorhead.

In 9 BBY, Obi-Wan Kenobi traveled to Anchorhead on an eopie each day to catch a transport that took him to his job at Tibidon Station, where he sliced up meat harvested from a dead tibidon sand whale. The transport would then take him back at the end of the day, where he would feed his eopie, then ride it back to his cave. At one point, while getting ready to leave Anchorhead, Kenobi was confronted by Owen Lars for his continuing attempts in protecting Lars' nephew, Luke Skywalker, as Lars felt Kenobi's involvement in the boy's life would lead him to join the Dark side of the Force, like his father, Anakin Skywalker. After Lars walked away, two of the Galactic Empire's Inquisitors arrived, looking for a Jedi named Nari. One of the Inquisitors, the Third Sister, began threatening the crowd of townspeople watching them, annoying her companion, the Fifth Brother. At one point, a woman informed the Third Sister that the Empire had no authority on Tatooine, causing the Inquisitor to cut off the woman's hand with her lightsaber. The Third Sister's attention drew to Lars, who was in the crowd. She began to taunt him and announced to the townspeople watching that she would kill his family if no one offered any knowledge on the Jedi, at which point the Fifth Brother stopped her. Later on, the Inquisitors managed to kill Nari and strung up his body in the middle of Anchorhead for the people to see.

A while later, Reva Sevander, the former Third Sister, returned to Anchorhead after being kicked out of the Inquisitorius, to find and kill Luke Skywalker, having learned that he was the son of Anakin, the Jedi who turned to the darkside and killed her fellow younglings ten years before. At a water stand ran by a vendor named Dardin Shull, Tibidon Station's foreman, Groff Ditcher pushed to the front of the line and took a cup of water, asking Shull if he had something to say. Sevander, nearby, sarcastically remarked that she had something to say, prompting Ditcher to tell her to wait her turn. Sevander responded by spilling his cup of water with the Force. At some point, Sevander learned where the Lars homestead was. Shull later on, entered the Anchorhead General Store that Lars and Skywalker were in to tell them about his interaction with Sevander and how she knew where they were.

Years later, in 0 BBY, Skywalker offered to take Kenobi to Anchorhead before making the decision to join him on his journey to Alderaan, before the murder of his aunt and uncle at the hands of the Empire. Also, during this time, an Imperial Army installation, Fort Ironhand, had been erected near Anchorhead. The facility was commanded by Captain Kosh and the 68th Legion. It was destroyed prior to the Battle of Hoth by the local rebel cell.

Behind the scenes

In A New Hope, Luke asks his uncle, Owen Lars, if he can see some of his friends there. In a deleted scene, Luke can be seen there with Biggs Darklighter, who would later fight alongside Luke in the Battle of Yavin. These scenes were filmed at Sidi Jemour in Djerba, Tunisia.

Anchorhead later made its first canonical appearance in the episode "Chapter 2: The Tribes of Tatooine" of the Disney+ live-action series The Book of Boba Fett, which premiered on January 5, 2022.
