Ambush of Attichitcuk

During a war on the moon Alaris Prime, the Wookiee Attichitcuk was ambushed by Battle Droid Beta Versions of the Trade Federation. The leader of a group of Wookiee colonists who were legally authorized to colonize the moon, Attichitcuk had set out on a scouting expedition with two bowcaster troopers to investigate the presence of the Trade Federation, which was illegally attempting to take over Alaris Prime.

After locating several battle droids, the Wookiees headed for a base but encountered another group of droids that attacked the Wookiees after demanding their surrender. The two troopers were killed and Attichitcuk seriously injured, though the chieftain was quickly rescued by his son, Chewbacca, and received medical aid.

Prelude

Sometime between 39 BBY and 36 BBY, a group of Wookiees led by Chieftain Attichitcuk were legally authorized to colonize the moon Alaris Prime by the Galactic Senate. The Wookiee colonists, led by Attichitcuk, along with his son, Chewbacca, and Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, traveled to Alaris Prime and began colonizing the moon. However, the Trade Federation also sought control of the moon to use it as a trade center and illegally established a competing colony.

An encounter at a gundark nest led to hostilities between the Wookiees and the Trade Federation.

On Alaris Prime, both sides faced attacks by predatory gundarks, prompting both the Wookiees and the Trade Federation to send their forces to the gundark nest to eliminate them. The Trade Federation's Battle Droid Beta Versions reached the nest first and, once they had killed all of the gundarks, attacked Wookiee bowcaster troopers led by Chewbacca, who fought back and destroyed all of the battle droids. Following the encounter, Attichitcuk and two Wookiee troopers began a scouting expedition in the forests of the moon to learn more about the Trade Federation's activities.

Meanwhile, at another base, Chewbacca and Jinn began preparing for any future encounters with the Trade Federation by advancing to a new level of technology and gathering various resources. Attichitcuk caught sight of several battle droids in the area and passed on the information to Jinn. He then made his way to the base, ahead of his two companions, not realizing another group of seven Trade Federation Battle Droid Beta Versions blocked his path.

The ambush

The battle droids, commanded by DRN-38, forced Attichitcuk to stop, and one droid ordered the Wookiee to come with them. The chieftain refused to comply, prompting the battle droids to fire upon Attichitcuk with E-5 blaster rifles. The Wookiee returned fire with his bowcaster but was severely wounded by the droids and left to die. Once the other Wookiees caught up to Attichitcuk, they were both shot and killed.

Aftermath

Attichitcuk was later rescued by his son, Chewbacca.

Through the use of the Force, Qui-Gon Jinn sensed that Attichitcuk was still alive and urged Chewbacca to stay calm. Jinn had the Wookiees construct a medical droid at the base command center and train at least ten bowcaster troopers before sending them and Chewbacca to rescue Attichitcuk. After destroying every battle droid they encountered on the path, the Wookiees reached Attichitcuk and had the medical droid revive the chieftain. They then returned with him to the base, encountering and destroying more battle droids on the way.

Attichitcuk was still severely injured, forcing Chewbacca to take his place as the leader of the colonists. With Jinn's guidance, the Wookiees planned and executed two major attacks on Trade Federation bases before driving their enemies off the moon for good with the help of a fully recovered Attichitcuk in the Battle for Alaris Prime.

Behind the scenes

The ambush of Attichitcuk was first mentioned in the strategy guide by Steven L. Kent—released on November 7, 2001—for the 2001 LucasArts video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds before appearing in the game itself in its release on November 11, 2001. The ambush appears in the fourth level of the Wookiee tutorial campaign, "Researching Technology," as a scripted event triggered after the player researches the second technology level, a key game mechanic in Galactic Battlegrounds. The player is unable to affect the outcome of the ambush.
